The radial flow chromatography technique is different from the traditional axial flow chromatography technique. In the radial column , the mobile phase carries the sample move along the radial direction. In a radial-flow column, the mobile phase and the sample can flow from the outer annulus of the column to the center of the column.
The radial column is composed of two annulus (see Figure.1). The area of the outer annulus is significantly larger than that of the inner annulus. A cavity is formed between the inner and outer annulus. The sample permeates through the entire outer annulus to the inner annulus, and finally the sample gathers with the inner annulus and exits through the lower port.
